Reform Judaism

Looking for a good book on Reform Judaism?

Reform Judaism began in Germany in the 1800s, but it is known now, like the Conservative movement, as an American Jewish phenomenon. And Reform of today is very different from the Classical Reform of 100 years ago. If you take a look at some of the books below, you'll see this turn toward tradition as Reform works to address the questions of Jewish identity in a free society like the U.S. Even a generation ago, it would have been hard to imagine titles like Gates of Mitzvah.

Reform is the largest of the Jewish denominations in America, and without doubt the most integrated into American society. As a result, you'll also see books here on assimilation and how the Reform movement tries to deal with it.

Books on Reform Judaism

The Reform movement is also the best organized of the denominations. So among the books shown below, you'll find several published by the movement's various bodies (Hebrew Union College, Union of American Hebrew Congregations, etc.) as well as books by Reform thinkers and others.
