An Inconvenient Truth Gore's groundbreaking, battle cry of a follow-up to the bestselling Earth in the Balance is being published to tie in with a documentary film of the same name. Both the book and film were inspired by a series of multimedia presentations on global warming that Gore created and delivers to groups around the world. With this book, Gore, who is one of our environmental heroes and a leading expert brings together leading-edge research from top scientists around the world; photographs, charts, and other illustrations; and personal anecdotes and observations to document the fast pace and wide scope of global warming. He presents, with alarming clarity and conclusiveness and with humor, too that the fact of global warming is not in question and that its consequences for the world we live in will be disastrous if left unchecked. This riveting new book written in an accessible, entertaining style will open the eyes of even the most skeptical.
Former Vice President Al Gore is chairman of Current TV, an independently owned cable and satellite television nonfiction network for young people based on viewer-created content and citizen journalism. He also serves as chairman of Generation Investment Management, a firm that is focused on a new approach to sustainable investing. Gore is a member of the Board of Directors of Apple Computer, Inc., and a senior advisor to Google, Inc.
Gore was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1976 and the U.S. Senate in 1984 and 1990. He was inaugurated as the 45th vice president of the United States on January 20, 1993, and served eight years. He is the author of the 1992 bestseller Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit.
Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, live in Nashville, Tennessee. They have four children and two grandchildren.

"As a user-friendly introduction to global warming and a succinct summary of many of the central arguments laid out in those other volumes, An Inconvenient Truth is lucid, harrowing and bluntly effective . . . Like Mr. Gore's 1992 book Earth in the Balance, this volume displays an earnest, teacherly tone, but it's largely free of the New Age psychobabble and A-student grandiosity that rumbled through that earlier book. The author's wonky fascination with policy minutiae has been tamed in these pages, and his love of charts and graphs has been put to good use . . . In this multimedia day of shorter attention spans and high-profile authors, An Inconvenient Truth could play a similar role in galvanizing public opinion about a real and present danger. It could goad the public into reading more scholarly books on the subject, and it might even push awareness of global warming to a real tipping point and beyond." Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times
"Very effective: a book on global warming that's downright chilling." Warren Bass, The Washington Post
"[An Inconvenient Truth] does not pretend to grapple with climate change with the sort of minute detail and analysis displayed by three books on the subject that came out earlier this spring (The Winds of Change by Eugene Linden, The Weather Makers by Tim Flannery and Field Notes From a Catastrophe by Elizabeth Kolbert), and yet as a user-friendly introduction to global warming and a succinct summary of many of the central arguments laid out in those other volumes, An Inconvenient Truth is lucid, harrowing and bluntly effective . . . Like Mr. Gore's 1992 book Earth in the Balance, this volume displays an earnest, teacherly tone, but it's largely free of the New Age psychobabble and A-student grandiosity that rumbled through that earlier book. The author's wonky fascination with policy minutiae has been tamed in these pages, and his love of charts and graphs has been put to good use . . . Mr. Gore does a cogent job of explaining how global warming can disrupt delicate ecological balances, resulting in the spread of pests (like the pine beetle, whose migration used to be slowed by colder winters), increases in the range of disease vectors (including mosquitoes, ticks and fleas), and the extinction of a growing number of species . . . In this multimedia day of shorter attention spans and high-profile authors, An Inconvenient Truth (the book and the movie) could play a similar role in galvanizing public opinion about a real and present danger. It could goad the public into reading more scholarly books on the subject, and it might even push awareness of global warming to a real tipping point and beyond." Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times

Heal the world:
I need it for my art project about global warming. it has a lot of surporting materials. so it is a useful book to me.
record cold AGAIN:
Just to heat Al Gore's personal double olympic pool would power my entire block. And after 10yrs of global cooling on Earth and Mars, (coinciding with diminished solar storms,..duh) shouldn't you Gore supporters be getting it yet,..that you got duped? Much like my generation got duped by the coming Ice Age in the 70's,..by the same liberals that are now, without apology, trying to sell global warming in the midst of record climate freezing temperatures. Don't be stupid,..just Google Earth Al Gore's giant... more info
An Inconvenient Truth About An Inconvenient Truth:
I like the content and I agree to what it says for the most part. My only problem with it is that it is very inconvenient that it isn't available on Kindle... Someone dropped the ball and sacrificed trees in not making it available on electronic media. (I did not mean DVD)
Where is the research?:
Is one supposed to just believe Al Gore? A cranky left wing politician who has no credentials as a scientist, declares man is causing global warming. What a stupid premiss. This book has no research, nothing to substantiate his claims. I guess he appeals to the believing is seeing crowd. Most people with intelligence expect more than that. Global warming is a nothing more than a populist movement, based upon hype. The truth is the climate cycles over the centuries naturally. The Earth just completed a... more info
